Linda Vista Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley—CA - Stringer Cellars

Reviews

92 - Wine Enthusiast
Barrel fermented from an impressive site in the relatively cool appellation, this white is bright, crisp, energetic and elegant. Light in style, it is well integrated in brisk pineapple, apple, nutmeg and wet stone, with persistent acidity.

Platinum Medal Winner Judges' Notes: "Excellent wine, full bodied with lovely balance." ________________________________________________ Sommelier Retreat Mentor Editor: Shana Clarke Sommelier Retreat Writer: Aaron Benson "Stringer’s 2018 Linda Vista Vineyard Chardonnay, grown in the breezy western stretch of Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, strikes a remarkable balance between cool climate character and Napa sensibility. Aromas of marzipan, brioche, juicy peaches and Tahitian vanilla are warm and inviting, and the wine’s attack is bright and focused, adding pineapple and orange zest to the profile. A careful hand is evident in the winemaking here; new French oak and lees aging play mere supporting roles. All elements are in balance, and mouthwatering acidity leaves a lasting impression."

Vineyards:

Linda Vista Vineyard is in the western part of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, an area historically known for award winning Chardonnay.  This location benefits from cool coastal breezes snaking their way off of the San Pablo Bay, to provide bright acidity, while the inland sun teases out flavorful ripeness.

Winemaking:

The hand-picked fruit was sorted and then gently crushed before being pressed.  The juice cold settled overnight then transferred to a combination of new 500 Liter puncheons and neutral barrels for fermentation. The juice was inoculated with a combination of yeasts for complexity.   After the primary fermentation was complete the wine was moved to cold storage where it slowly finished malolactic fermentation. Aging was done over 12 months sur less, without battonage.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose tropical fruit flows into the kitchen for fresh-baked golden-delicious apple pie with a hint of key lime. Upon first sip you are greeted with a pop of bright acid then the edges rounded with a hint of pineapple upside down cake and a finish kissed with minerality. The wine displays both elegance and balance.
